Julianna Joos has re-created the alphabet in a series of etchings in which each print represents a letter. The titles of the works always read in the same manner: the letter is associated to surnames, names of places or common nouns. The purpose of this series is to show that each letter evokes, beyond its role in the writing of the words, ideas, emotions, memories. Julianna Joos was raised and educated in a big city; this could explain her subjective reaction to words and letters. Her relationship to letters has become more emotional than intellectual due to the invasion of her everyday life by all kinds of writings more or less understandable.
