Julianna Joos was born in Montreal, Quebec. In her thirty years as a professional artist, she has had fifteen solo exhibitions and has participated in more than a hundred group shows around the world.
Her favourite medium has long been printmaking. The digital technologies have introduced new refinements to some of her images but she remains sensitive to the manual nature of working with the plate. In addition to printmaking and computer work, in 2004 Julianna began exploring jacquard weaving. In all of her work, the subject matter evolves from the objects and places of our culture.

Julianna has a BA from Concordia University and a Masters degree from the University of Quebec in Montreal. She teaches at Dawson where she is finishing her term as chairperson of the Fine Arts Department. She was the president of the Conseil québécois de l’estampe from 1998 to 2000. In addition to an active participation in various art organizations throughout her career, she has also assembled and curated several exhibitions including Si l’estampe m’était contée and Infidélités in Montreal, and pARTnership in Brisbane, Australia.

Julianna Joos est une artiste de Montréal (Québec, Canada) qui en plus de trente ans de pratique a su ajouter à une centaine d’expositions de groupe, à Montréal et à l’étranger, plus d’une quinzaine d’expositions solos.

Son médium de prédilection a longtemps été l’estampe originale; depuis deux ans, elle y a ajouté une nouvelle production en tissage jacquard. Utilisant comme métaphore les objets et espaces du quotidien, elle travaille avec les symboles qui décrivent notre fatalité.

Son travail a été primé dans deux biennales internationales d’estampe : Premio Acqui (Italie, 2005) et Voir Grand (Montréal, 2002); elle a aussi reçu des mentions et des invitations à l’occasion d’autres manifestations.

Son implication dans le milieu de l’estampe comprend la coordination d’un atelier d’estampes, les Ateliers Graff (1989-1998) et l’enseignement au Collège Dawson et aux Ateliers Graff . Elle a été présidente du Conseil québécois de l’estampe de 1998 à 2000. Elle est présentement coordon-natrice du département d’arts plastiques au Cegep Dawson. Tout au long de sa carrière, comme artiste, coordonnatrice, membre de plusieurs conseils d’administration et comme professeur, elle a élaboré et réalisé des projets d’exposition.
